I was just reminded of Adam Yauch’s nutzoid bass line for “Sabotage” when the Beastie Boys plays the 1994 MTV Music Video Awards. 1:53, don’t sleep.

Y’all are posting some really great memories today. The last time I saw The Beastie Boys was about five years ago. They played a secret show in small theatre on the top of Metro. It was one of the longest days in the history of ever but it was totally worth it.

During the “Qudrophonic/Billy Joel” tour they did in support for “Ill Communication” they played Montreal… Bad Brains were supposed to open, but HR got into a fight somewhere in between arriving and showtime. It was announced that the Beasties would play an extended set.

I really don’t remember much about the show… age does that, and it was the senior year of high school. Don’t even remember who I rode up with! IT might have been Marc Brannigan; I know that some of my friends rode separately, because they had a hard time getting home since one of them drank way too much Molson XXX (shit is like moonshine) and passed out up in the balcony. I remember that they played F-O-R-E-V-E-R though.

Anyway, during “Sabotage”—the part where the it just stops and there’s a organ swell and then Yauch’s ridiculous bass line kicks back in?—They went into Riot Fight—then the lights dropped. Yauch’s bass line came back in, Money Mark was standing on top of one of the speakers, and when the drum kicked dude dove off.

The place went berzerk… incredible show.

Peace be with you Adam; you helped shape my musical worldview.
